Happy birthday to me!

Updated: Apr 1, 2020

Celebrating your birthday in times of corona: yay? No friends to celebrate with, no free pints at the pub, no party. Here are some tips to make the best of your special day.

1 Life is a party, all you need to do is put up some decorations

Who says that you can't go all out for your birthday? Decorate your living room or kot, draw birthday crowns on your windows with chalk markers, or try to make yourself your own balloon animal.

2 Flex those cooking skills

Fair's fair, you won't be able to celebrate your birthday with a dinner in a restaurant. But perhaps this is a good time to perfect those cooking skills. Make yourself a kick-ass birthday cake, or cook yourself a swanky three-course menu to give yourself a treat. If all this seems too complicated, there's always deliveroo.

3 Virtual friends

Gather some friends on Houseparty, Zoom or Messenger who will want to sing you happy birthday. And in the meantime, you can toast to your own good health with some beers or a nice glass of Kidibul. Amazing party!

4 Unwrapping gifts

Have you already thought about how to unwrap your gifts given that your family and friends are not with you? Have them send you your gifts by post and unwrap them online in front of your webcam. So they can enjoy the experience with you. And if they were unable to send you a present, then buy yourself one. Support your local shops during this difficult period and treat yourself to a book, a fun gadget or a fancy new dress or trousers from a local shop.

5 ... Enjoy your party!

Life is a party, right? Enjoy your big day, all the attention coming your way, the notifications on Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere, the birthday cards, everything that makes this day so special for you.

And hey ... Happy birthday, you!
